How to add custom messages to Procmon traces

One of the challenges of debugging applications is identifying where in the logs you should start looking for problems. This problem is compounded if you need to pass the logs to Cloudhouse Engineering team for analysis. The following utility can be used to record custom messages in the logs, and serve as helpful markers for the purposes of debugging. For example, "Started workflow", "Pressed print", "Ended workflow" or "Application crashed at this point".

  1. Download the attachment.
  2. Start Procmon.exe.
  3. Enable profiling events to be visible in Procmon
  4. Run DebugText.exe.
  5. While the application is running, whenever you need to create a custom message type in the DebugText UI and press 'Send'.
